How to play
- Tap Start the update. The screen becomes a system update with a spinner and a percentage.
- Hand the phone over. It reads "Installing system update" and "Optimising apps and system services".
- The percentage climbs slowly and never finishes, so they keep waiting for it.
- The trick: let it run a few seconds before you pass it on. The line that sells the whole thing is "Do not turn off your device", and it only appears once the update is already going.
When to play this
Fake System Update is a prank for one person standing next to you, not for a group chat. It works because the screen looks exactly like the thing everyone dreads, and it takes no setup: open it, start it, hand the phone across. The reveal is built in, so nobody stays annoyed for long.
Questions people ask
Does it actually update anything? No. Nothing is installed and nothing on the phone changes. It is a screen that looks like an update and then admits it.
How does the prank end?The update never finishes. When you are ready, the reveal says there was no update, and you can run it again.
Do I need to download anything? No. It runs in the browser on any phone.
Will it work on someone else's phone?Yes. Open the link on any phone and it looks the same. Nothing is saved to the device.
